If you have seen the movie, Out of Africa then you know who Isak Dinesen/Karen Blixen is. A book about the writings of the famous danish writer Isak Dinesen, her international pseudonym. In Denmark she is known under the name Karen Blixen. I made a test in Denmark to see, if it was possible to sell normal books much cheaper as the other publishers did!
The book was first published in danish by a normal danish publisher in 1985 for 30,- euro. KnowWare relaunched the same book including 70 more new pages, but the price was very different: and immediately became a bestseller and sold 25.000 copies in the first year, because KnowWare challenged the book-publishing business in Denmark by selling the book at a unseen low price: 6,- euro. Such a book would normally in small Denmark cost 30,- euro. You can get the english book for 4,- euro by ordering it from this website - no credit card is needed. You get the book by mail with an invoice. Read a few pages by clicking here
The author else Brundbjerg
Since 1971 else Brundbjerg has worked extensively as a lecturer in Denmark and has contributed to the propagation of the knowledge of Karen Blixen and her writings through articles and debates, and she has arranged several seminars in Copenhagen on the subject. Among other things, she has published a "dialogue between Grundtvig and Karen Blixen", written on the basis of their own writings and opinions, and in an article in the Library Association's periodical, she has refuted the Kenyan writer Ngugi wa Thiongo's theories of Karen Blixen's alleged racism.
Appendix
This book was first published in 1985 and in the second edition published in 1995, an appendix has been added covering Denys Finch Hatton's letters to Karen Blixen, correcting several misreadings made by Judith Thurman and errol Trzebinski in their respective biographies.
One chapter deals with the marriage with Bror Blixen, one deals with the course of Karen Blixen's illness as documented by Doctor Kaare Weisman who, on the basis of medical reports, thinks that Karen Blixen's poor health was due to a heavy metal poisoning from the treatment she received for syphilis.
Finally, a chapter is included on Karen Blixen's relationship to Beryl Markham, dealing with the alleged love affair between the latter and Denys Finch Hatton, allegations which appear to have been based on unfounded rumours.
